Happy New Year

Article Date: 13 January 2020

It’s all go at present within the Personal Tax Department at ASE Plc with clients keen to file their tax returns by 31 January 2020 deadline.

Michelle Malone, Tax Director, commented that “most taxpayers know the drill nowadays and so it’s only in one or two cases where reminders are necessary to encourage the more reluctant to file their returns”.

Interestingly, Michelle points out that “3,003 individuals filed their personal tax returns on Christmas Day, a rise of 387 over the previous year”. The peak time according to Michelle was between 12 noon and 1pm.

However, given that 11,700,000 tax returns are to be filed each year, the number of returns filed on Christmas Day are less than 10% of the number that need to be filed each day out the 365 days in order for all of the returns to be filed on time.

By Christmas Day 54% of all returns had been filed; Michelle added that a far higher percentage of ASE Plc clients had filed their tax returns by Christmas Day benefiting from the support and assistance of the tax team.
